our story

It all began on the evening of Nov 29th 2003, at former Chat Noir French Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. Brad approached me [Jana] and we instantly connected; it was love at first sight. The next 4 years that followed were a whirlwind of romance, growing pains, and adventures. We circled the globe, traveling to South America, Europe, and Asia. Then one night, Brad surprised me with a romantic beachside proposal. We made it official on August 23rd 2008 with an intimate wedding at a hip art gallery in Laguna Beach. A year later we finished redesigning our home in the beach village of Corona del Mar.

On May 18th, 2010, we were blessed with a sweet little miracle of our own, our baby boy Taj Leon. He stole our hearts and took our breath away! Then, 19 months later, his incredible little brother, Jax Franz, arrived on Christmas morning (December 25th) 2011. What an amazing gift we received! In an effort to slow down the clock and enjoy our beautiful family, in Spring of 2012, we sold our CA seaside home and moved across the country to our dream lake house in Brad's hometown of Bemus Point, a resort village on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York! Even though we are living a more slow paced life, we are living a life far from ordinary!

From the West Coast to the East Coast, our Grover family adventures continue! So won't you come along and join us on this journey of love, family, and travel we like to call our La Vida Grover!

Taj's FIRST Time Ice Skating

Taj has a new winter hobby, make that hobbies!!!  ICE SKATING and skiing!  We took him ice skating for the first time right after Christmas, and Babi and Deda came with us to witness it.  We set up a play date on ice with one of Taj's buddies, Kaelyn.  It was the kids' first time on ice.  I totally expected Taji to get anxious and nervous trying something new based on past experience, but 'lo and behold, he surprised us all!
He was all smiles, and LOVED it!  He was such a pro that he enjoyed using the trainer and kept going without giving up.  He also had no problem walking around in the skates off ice, no trouble balancing.

Then, just a mere 2 1/2 weeks after his first 'go', Taj returned to the ice for a second skate date with Kaelyn and his other girl friend Caroline!  This time, Taj used the trainer all on his own, and he was fast!  He was so confident that midway he decided he didn't want to use the trainer and instead preferred to hold my hand and Caroline's hand.  They skated hand-in-hand, and also shared the trainer.  It was so sweet!  I love that ice skating makes him this happy, it sure is fun to have this as a winter activity/ hobby!  I'm also amazed at how open and confident he is at trying all these new sports!  Such a go-getter!!

Winter Play with Babi & Deda!

We were so happy to have Babi & Deda spend our 2nd ever NY holiday season with us.  Straight from their European-Caribbean cruise and New Orleans visit, they flew up to NY and spent 3 whole weeks with us.  The boys loved spending every second with their beloved babi & deda.  Jax again became Babi's boy, every morning asking for Babi and calling for her throughout the day.  Deda spent a lot of time playing winter games with the boys, including sledding, snow ball fights, snowman making, snow painting, even the deda-invented "merry-go-round" spinning the boys around on their sleds!

And when they weren't ice skating, going on walks, jumping on trampolines (at Jax's party), then they were playing hide and seek, building forts, eating Babi's Czech home-cooking, sneaking bites from Deda's tuscan garlic bread sandwiches, and getting tickled!  Babi and Deda were also here for Taj's first Christmas program, christmas tree trimming, saw the boys get their hair cuts, went grocery shopping with them, watched their favorite cartoons, and even stayed home with them while mommy and daddy whooped it up!  Such wonderful winter play and moments spent with Babi and Deda, that the boys and us definitely treasure and feel grateful for! It made our Christmas time so special and magical!  Thanks for visiting us, Babi and Dedo!

Taji's 1st Christmas Program

Taj's Preschool class held their annual Christmas Program, and it was the most adorable event!  They sang christmas songs and recited poems.  This was our first time watching Taj among other kids, and perform in front of an audience.  He was not shy whatsoever!  He actually thrived off the attention and enjoyed performing!  You could also tell he knew every word of every song and every poem!  We couldn't stop snapping photos and recording video of him….. what a great first performance!  Maybe he'll be on stage one day?!  One of the best parts about his Christmas Program was that his whole entourage was there to cheer him on: his brother, mommy and daddy, and Babi & Deda!!!
Here are some of our favorites:

Story Time with Ms. Jana

I present to you, Ms. Jana, the story teller!!  Yup, let me introduce you to my once a month gig at our favorite library, Ashville Library.   You can call it "wetting my toes" as I creep slowly back into the working world!  HA HA This is just a volunteer thing, and I secretly love it and get to play preschool teacher for a mere hour a month!

The librarian and I have become pretty good friends and she asked me to do story time every month.  It was my idea to do a monthly theme along with a craft and snack to match!  December was my first story time. We had a GREAT turnout!  8 kids, and their parents.  Whom might I end are all my friends!  Nice to have my friends and community there supporting me.  I did a Christmas Story time, complete with gingerbread baby cookie decorating and eating!  My friend Christy played on her guitar when we sang Christmas songs. It was a blast, and I love that my boys get to participate and enjoy this experience with me!

The January story time turned out to be even bigger: 10 kids!  Some of the same kids and some new friends that heard about the last one and joined in this month!  I did a Snowman Winter theme, so all of the books I read were about snow and winter play!  We made a yummy marshmallow snowman on a pretzel stick snack.  The kids put the marshmallows on the big pretzel stick, added little pretzel sticks for the arms, a gummie hat, and the mommies helped decorate the face and buttons with a cake marker. The kids began munching on their snowmen so fast I couldn't get a single photo of the snowmen's head!  We also had hot cocoa I cooked the morning of story time.

Next month's story time is all about Valentine's Day, love, kisses, hugs, hearts, and all that mushy stuff since my story time falls on the tuesday right before V-day.  Looking forward to putting on my Pinterest hat again and coming up with a fun craft/ snack!

Breakfast with Santa X2

Early December, we visited the Children's Museum of Erie, for a Breakfast with Santa event and magic show!

Jax was not too fond of Santa this year, so daddy had to sit with him.  And even then, the big guy in red made him mighty nervous sitting next to him!

The following weekend, we met up with some of our friends for another Breakfast with Santa, but this time at the Bemus Inn in Bemus.  Taj and Matthew are good buddies!

Jax was still unsure of Santa, but he did like the little treats he brought him!  I bet by next Christmas, he'll be all warmed up to him :-)
