our story

It all began on the evening of Nov 29th 2003, at former Chat Noir French Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. Brad approached me [Jana] and we instantly connected; it was love at first sight. The next 4 years that followed were a whirlwind of romance, growing pains, and adventures. We circled the globe, traveling to South America, Europe, and Asia. Then one night, Brad surprised me with a romantic beachside proposal. We made it official on August 23rd 2008 with an intimate wedding at a hip art gallery in Laguna Beach. A year later we finished redesigning our home in the beach village of Corona del Mar.

On May 18th, 2010, we were blessed with a sweet little miracle of our own, our baby boy Taj Leon. He stole our hearts and took our breath away! Then, 19 months later, his incredible little brother, Jax Franz, arrived on Christmas morning (December 25th) 2011. What an amazing gift we received! In an effort to slow down the clock and enjoy our beautiful family, in Spring of 2012, we sold our CA seaside home and moved across the country to our dream lake house in Brad's hometown of Bemus Point, a resort village on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York! Even though we are living a more slow paced life, we are living a life far from ordinary!

From the West Coast to the East Coast, our Grover family adventures continue! So won't you come along and join us on this journey of love, family, and travel we like to call our La Vida Grover!

The First Winter Blast of the Season

Happy SNOWvember!!!

Look what we woke up to last week??

We got a little 2-day white wintery blast, and took advantage of snow play!
Who knew sand toys were great to play in the snow with!!!

visiting our neighbor's chicken coop!

It was a nice change to bring out our snow gear, snow boots, hats, and mittens!  We played in the snow, and enjoyed the fluffy white winter-land!  By the end of the week, it all melted and the green grass and bare trees were once again visible.  It was a little preview (and warning) that Winter is definitely on its way now!!  Will we have a white Thanksgiving?  Well, if we do, we won't be surprised since we had a white Easter earlier this year!

Last Friday's beautiful sunset!

Halloween Week 2013

Halloween 2013 was muy fantastico this year!  We went for the Dora the Exporer theme family costume!!!  Both of the boys are MUY uh-bsessed with Dora!!!  It is their favorite show at the time being, and they just love all the characters: Dora, Diego, Swiper the Fox, Boots the monkey…. you name it!  It also has to be our most creative family costume so far, because all of ours were homemade!!!  There were no Dora the Explorer character costumes to buy online, so we had to make our own!  Brad, I mean 'Diego', did a great job coming up with his!  A couple wigs, a tube of self tanner and bronzer, and we were transformed into 2 cute Mexican kids: Diego and Dora!

My sewing needles and thread were dusted off as well, and I put my sewing skills (what my mommy taught me centuries ago) to work!  I found a $5 fox costume on sale at Old Navy, and sewed on Swiper's infamous blue mask, and had to shorten the fingers on his blue mittens….. Viola!  Then for our adorable Boots: bought a monkey beanie for Jax, as well as a lavender sleeper (its probably the only time you will see him in lavender….. don't think lavender is a good boy color LOL).  For his, I sewed on the tan belly material, and we completed the look with red rain boots! Viola!

A-dorable!!!!

Halloween Week festivities kicked off
with Taj's Preschool Halloween costume parade!

All the kids sat in a circle in the end, sang songs, and revealed their identities!

The next day, the actual day of Halloween, Dora, Swiper, and Boots set off on an adventure to the library, for a Halloween music class party.  The boys enjoyed wearing their costumes practically all day, and their rain boots came in quite handy since it was raining on and off all day!
Another family portrait!

We had Faith, Shawn, and little Paxton over for pizza and beer/wine before braving the wet rain and trick or treating!

The Hricko Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Family!

Then two days later, Brad and I had some costume fun of our own!  I mean, isn't Halloween the perfect excuse for adults to play dress up? It was our 2nd year attending the Steen-Nolan Annual Halloween party, and Brad had the idea for us to go as Tommy Lee and Pam Anderson! We were rock glam all the way!

A black long wig, lots of make up, and a Motley Crue leather shirt (that Brad insists used to belong to Tommy himself), Brad became Tommy Lee for the night!  And my clip-on blonde hair extensions, 6 pairs of rolled up socks in a red corset, and a pair of hot shiny leggings, and I instantly turned into Pam Anderson!!! NOT!  More like Kim Zolciak from the Real Housewives of Atlanta…… LOL
All of our friends, including us, had a laugh coming up with our couples costumes!

Daddy Brad's Stockholm, Sweden Trip

Daddy Brad had a great time visiting our friends Griffin and Jane in Stockholm, Sweden.  They just moved there and are planning to live there the 2 years that Griffin is contracted with his pharmaceutical company.  They are also having twins!  A boy and a girl, due this February!  Doesn't get any more perfect than that! I cannot wait for their swedish meatballs to get here, and to visit them!  I think we may just have to plan a trip out to Sweden this late Spring!  I have not been to Sweden yet and would love to go and take the boys, and see our good friends while they live there and before their little twinsies get too big.  There's a lot to do there with the kiddos, and maybe we could even hop over to the Czech Republic (less than 2 hour flight) and see my parents! The brainstorming begins....

Anyway, here are some wonderful photos that Brad took while visiting Stockholm.  Sure looks like he enjoyed himself with all those yummy Swedish meals, beer, and sightseeing!
