our story

It all began on the evening of Nov 29th 2003, at former Chat Noir French Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. Brad approached me [Jana] and we instantly connected; it was love at first sight. The next 4 years that followed were a whirlwind of romance, growing pains, and adventures. We circled the globe, traveling to South America, Europe, and Asia. Then one night, Brad surprised me with a romantic beachside proposal. We made it official on August 23rd 2008 with an intimate wedding at a hip art gallery in Laguna Beach. A year later we finished redesigning our home in the beach village of Corona del Mar.

On May 18th, 2010, we were blessed with a sweet little miracle of our own, our baby boy Taj Leon. He stole our hearts and took our breath away! Then, 19 months later, his incredible little brother, Jax Franz, arrived on Christmas morning (December 25th) 2011. What an amazing gift we received! In an effort to slow down the clock and enjoy our beautiful family, in Spring of 2012, we sold our CA seaside home and moved across the country to our dream lake house in Brad's hometown of Bemus Point, a resort village on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York! Even though we are living a more slow paced life, we are living a life far from ordinary!

From the West Coast to the East Coast, our Grover family adventures continue! So won't you come along and join us on this journey of love, family, and travel we like to call our La Vida Grover!

The Grover Party Lake House!

When we bought and recently renovated our house, we designed it with the intention of having a big space to entertain for many years to come, and for all different types of occasions.  We knew we needed an open concept kitchen and large enough to accommodate all of our soirees.... and we knew that once everything was complete by Summer we would be using it a lot.  We just had no idea, how much entertaining we would actually do!

Let me put it this way..... this summer we have had either a party, a BBQ, or small friend dinner gathering almost every weekend! That's A LOT of boozing and cooking!!!

Brad and I joke but in all seriousness, ever since summer started in June, every time we have a gathering at our house, our friends either arrive by foot, boat, or bike!  That's how close we are to the village, and that's how people prefer to get around during the summer days and evenings! Unfortunately, all my cooking in our new kitchen made me a slacker behind the lens..... so I have barely taken any pictures of these gatherings.   The new kitchen has inspired me to get very adventurous with cooking, and I have been having SO much fun!  At one party I made carnitas with all the trimmings (paired with Skinny Girl Margaritas).  At another gathering, I made pulled pork sandwiches and sides.  At another dinner, I went Mediterrean and made Moussaka, paired with Mojitos!  Such fun!!

These photos were taken a few weeks when our friends, the Johnsons' from Colorado, were in town and we all got together.... (this was the evening I made the pulled pork!)

The guys playing "Stones"... a new style of bacci ball.

and the ladies....

Two weekends ago, we had yet another gathering, but this time the boys' buddies came over!  We invited Taj's best friend Charley and her family over, and Jax's new buddy Paxton and his parents!  We had a ball all playing together!  The initial plan was to go boating and then back to our house for a Burger Bar.... but we had thunderstorms all day, so instead, the kids played in the kiddie pool and adults had more cocktails to go with their gourmet burgers :)   I was so excited to have my new mommy friends Lesley and Faith over with their hubbies!  We all clicked and had fun hanging out.  We played so late that at the end of the night, we threw all the kids in the bath together!  At the end of night, like 10pm, Taj excitedly shared how much fun he had with Charley!  I know we will be doing this again soon; Those two are smitten with each other!

Alleghany National Forest- Red House Beach

We visited Alleghany National Forest with our friends the other week, and had a blast swimming at Red House Beach.  This is a popular recreation and camping area just 30 minutes West of us.  I would love to come back here with our bikes (we have to get a bike thing for our car first though) and spend the day playing here! The boys had a great time swimming in the shallow lake with their buddy Benny, and Jax LOVED playing in the muddy part!  Ahhh, boys and their mud..... I swear it is a boy's dream come true!

Grover Summer June-July 2013

This is a photo compilation of some of the ways we've been spending our summer these past 2 months! When we are not on the boat, then we are on bikes, at summer camps, hanging with friends and family, picking fruit somewhere exciting, or swimming (and taking swim lessons) at the country club we recently joined: Moonbrook Country Club!
Taj screams, Jax screams..... We ALL scream for Ice Cream!!!

Riding bikes: Taj is SO good riding his balance bike. He got his balance bike from my sister back in May and is already so fast and balancing with his feet up. He will be ready for a bike with pedals (and NO training wheels) by the end of next month!!! He rides his bike all the time!
Jax on the tricycle.... still a little too short, but he is eager to ride with Taji :)

The boys beginning to inner tube on the lake (via Brad pulling them around). I am not sure why the video appears blurry :(

Mommy's Book Club, and friend Anne's big birthday celebration... along with the initiation of summer!  This summer is about "shots" for some reason LOL

Red, White, and Blue 2013

This was our first *real* 4th of July at our house in Bemus Point, and we were lucky enough to spend it with Brad's childhood friend Bridget and her lovely family!  Her girls are so close in age with our boys, and since they live only about 2 hours away (in Cleveland) we try to get together when we can.  They were in town, and this was actually their 2nd year of renting out our cottage, so after a day of paddle boarding, boating, and swimming in the lake, we had them over for a Red, White, and Blue BBQ!!!

The kiddies loved playing together, as usual! We grilled burgers, took our golf cart down to our dock and watched numerous fireworks shows around the lake!  We even had a bonfire, played with sparklers, and roasted marshmallows (SMORES!).  We watched chinese paper lanterns float in the sky, and I heard Bridget's oldest daughter, Rhenna (5) whisper "This is the best 4th of July ever!" :)

It was magical for the kids, who got to stay up until almost midnight!!

There is a 10pm tradition, that right before the big fireworks shows, every lakefront property lights their flares.  For about 30 minutes the lake glows red and it looks awesome with the fireworks!!!  Brad and Michael lit our flares and it was pretty exciting to see it all glowing red!

watching the fireworks!

mmmm, Jax and Eleanor loving the ice cream!

Sparklers!!!
