our story

It all began on the evening of Nov 29th 2003, at former Chat Noir French Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. Brad approached me [Jana] and we instantly connected; it was love at first sight. The next 4 years that followed were a whirlwind of romance, growing pains, and adventures. We circled the globe, traveling to South America, Europe, and Asia. Then one night, Brad surprised me with a romantic beachside proposal. We made it official on August 23rd 2008 with an intimate wedding at a hip art gallery in Laguna Beach. A year later we finished redesigning our home in the beach village of Corona del Mar.

On May 18th, 2010, we were blessed with a sweet little miracle of our own, our baby boy Taj Leon. He stole our hearts and took our breath away! Then, 19 months later, his incredible little brother, Jax Franz, arrived on Christmas morning (December 25th) 2011. What an amazing gift we received! In an effort to slow down the clock and enjoy our beautiful family, in Spring of 2012, we sold our CA seaside home and moved across the country to our dream lake house in Brad's hometown of Bemus Point, a resort village on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York! Even though we are living a more slow paced life, we are living a life far from ordinary!

From the West Coast to the East Coast, our Grover family adventures continue! So won't you come along and join us on this journey of love, family, and travel we like to call our La Vida Grover!

Jax turns 4 months old!

Happy 4 months to the one and only Crisco Kid!  Baby Jax earned this new nickname after his pediatrician recommended we use Crisco as a moisturizer for his mild eczema and cradle cap.  So we greased him up with Crisco (a vegetable shortening), and bam!  his signature mohawk was born and ever since then, the hair does not want to lay flat!
At his 4 month check-up,  Jax weighed 13 lbs and 13 oz (25th percentile) and was 26 inches long (82nd percentile).   So listen to this, Brad and I actually just discovered (a little late than never) that poor Jax has 2 different ears!  His right ear is after daddy, and his left (very cute and round, I may add) is after his mommy!  Yes, and because he's a boy, it will be difficult to hide this!  Finally he got something of mama's HA HA!  But in all seriousness, its not noticeable... just to family that knows our ears!  We came across this because depending on which side of profile you look at him from, he looks a teeny bit different.  I also found out that my dad has two different ears, so its probably genetics.  In other good news, friends and family are starting to point out that Jax is starting to look more like his mommy.... YEY!  really?! I hope, but I won't hold my breath because Brad's features seem to be the dominant ones in this family!

Jax is quite the active baby, rolling all over the place (finally got a video of him in action rolling from back to belly):

He has the brightest blue eyes, and sweetest laugh that makes my heart melt!

Jax is teething now, and we are waiting for tooth #1 to make its entrance any day.  He voraciously chews on his Sophie the giraffe and says "hi" to people by grabbing their finger and slobbering all over it!
Jax's 4th month was full of all kinds of excitement.  He had his first overnighter, first spring break weekend vacation & first time in San Diego, his first time sleeping in a hotel crib, first time in a speedo and a dip in the pool, first time at an amusement park (Legoland), first time with a babysitter in the evening, and first bath in a big boy tub!  Jax is a chill baby but definitely demands more attention these days.  Last month Jax found his voice, but this month he learned how to use it!  And use it he does!  He said his first word..... "mama"!

I LOVE that my boys say "mama" so early on, they are such mama's boys!  LOL Jax shouts "ma ma" and "mee mee" when he's hungry, says "ba" and "aba", and when he's in his silly playful mood makes raspberries and spits all over!  He's a verbal baby like his big brother was, but only if he could sleep through the night again!  Eh, Jax is so talkative that he wakes now 1-2x in the night and we listen to him babble and make sounds.  After his very own "variety show" (must have learned this from Taji) he begins to whine and cry and in I go to nurse him.  Maybe because he's practicing all his new skills, maybe he is hungry since he burns more calories during the day, or maybe he's learned how to get mama's attention at night and likes a midnight snack..... not sure, but I'm praying he soon returns to the heavenly long night of sleep he used to have last month!!!
