We had quite the Fall and holiday season starting our very first fundraiser- collecting gently used baby carriers for Carry The Future grassroots organization in helping the Syrian refugee families. We were so influenced and compelled to help any way we could after returning from our Euro and Czech travels that we made this our "Season for Giving" goal. It became a family affair, as we collected baby carriers, winter clothes, and blankets to be able to send over to Turkey and other refugee camps in time for Winter. I worked with 2 main organizations and through social media, postings/ ads at the elementary school and Jax's preschool, we filled our guestroom with a ton of donations.... no kidding!
The boys also learned all about the Syrian refugee crisis, the Syrian war, refugee camps, and connected this to similar pathways their mommy and her family took to escape Communism in the former Czechoslovakia. They developed so much empathy throughout this process, helping to sort the donations, donating their own clothes and baby blankets, and really processing the meaning of helping those that are less fortunate, living in dangerous and war-torn countries. This was their first exposure, and beginning of their humanitarian efforts, and more to come in the future for them I hope!
The big boxes we packed full with donations, that Daddy Brad shipped out for us!
Annual donations to the Chautauqua Humane Society, thinking of our furry friends in-need as well!
Shawnee was quite the busy elf this year, motivating and instructing the boys to get out there and help others, and complete their fundraising/ donation efforts! She was very proud of the boys for their big heart!
