The second half of August, we surprised Deda with a very special reunion family trip to Czech. Back in June for his 65th birthday, my sister and I coordinated to meet up at our parents' Brezova country house in CZ (since they were already planning to fly in to retrieve Chloe). We planned and then presented this idea to our parents! They were so surprised and happy that all of us could meet up for the VERY FIRST time with all of our families in tow at their country house my dad built. This would also mark the 10 years since the completion of that house. It seemed that through those years we had all visited at separate times (either brad and I (back before we had kids and when Brad asked my dad for my hand in marriage), then when my sister visited solo with Chloe, then when I visited with the boys solo in 2015, and last year when my sister and her family/friends came for a visit.) August 2017 would mark the date both Dlab sisters and their husbands and kids would be together with Babi and Deda, all under the same roof in CZ! What a special milestone for all of us, for them, and for the 2nd generation Czech cousins to reunite and always have this moment to look back on. We had just seen and said goodbye to Chloe in WNY, so the boys were thrilled to be able to reunite with her in CZ. It also solidified the cultural experience and bond they share even more so.
It would only be a week for us to share, with my sister and Bryan arriving from Italy a couple days after we arrived, and then us all leaving on the same following Sunday. But within that week, we shared many adventures- ziplining, our favorite Zlin Lesna Zoo, paying tribute to my deda, waterpark pool time, and lastly, a very special extended family reunion dinner where our aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, drove great distances to come visit us all. Babi and Deda rented a restaurant out for the party, and it was also a mini joint- 45(Brad) 65 (deda) 85 (Verka) birthday celebration. It was fantastic seeing all my cousins, their kids, getting to visit with my aunts and uncles, and of course my parent's long time friends. It made for a very special gathering, with lots of Czech beer and delicious Czech cuisine!
Second and third cousins!
First and second cousins!
Sunday drive to Vienna, where we met up with my sister, Bryan, and Chloe to go tour a museum of music, then we had the same flight to Iceland where we continued the Grover- Fetters adventures...
