Here's to our 4th ski season with the boys on skis,
and our 3rd winter season family skiing in Ellicottville and utilizing our ski bunky!
This season we discovered how fun and more economical it is to go night skiing! We virtually had the slopes to ourselves, didn't have to wait in lines to get on chair lifts, and had quite the adventures exploring new green and blue trails. We challenged ourselves as a family and pushed ourselves to ski longer, later, and conquered the unpredictable snow conditions. Jax learned how to pick himself up when he fell skiing on ice, and how we need more control and slower speed when ski conditions are less than favorable. Jax continued to be a speedracer down the hill on the heels of Taji so much that the boys became fiercely competitive when skiing. They constantly raced each other!! They did so much that that at the end of the season, their mama could not keep up whatsoever! Go Jax Go 2018 (6 yrs old) from jana grover on Vimeo.
Exploring new trails
All good things come to an end, and not everything can last forever. Such is our time at our ski bunky. After 3 very fun and memorable ski seasons staying over at the bunky, we were finally ready to say goodbye and accepted an offer on the bunky (and front house) within a week of listing it. We decided it was finally time to get the ball rolling since we were starting to outgrow the bunky and have a desire to ski other mountains and ski resorts around the world. As mentioned in earlier posts, we simply just outgrew Ellicottville and while we put off renovating the house (the initial goal of buying this property) with time we realized that although EVL has been a wonderfully sweet starting point for getting our boys into skiing and skiing as a family, we just couldn't see a real long-term invested future in having a home here. Its almost like a restriction to the endless skiing adventure destination possibilities. Most likely, if we proceeded to renovate the house we would have depleted ourselves financially as the project became much more complicated and intimidating the longer the house sat there. Brad (and I) lost the motivation and drive to want to invest in it or to even take on a project such as this especially since we live that close to it. Though the village itself was fun and we loved dining out together after skiing, playing at the arcade, and starting out mornings off with yummy breakfasts at Katy's, we had managed to do it enough, return multiple times to multiple places, that eventually, even this you start to outgrow and it just becomes the same thing over and over. There wasn't much to do besides ski and with every new year came an unpredictable and sometimes disappointing ski season and snow conditions. By the 3rd ski season we also discovered that we still did not have en established EVL Winter social life (family friends and little ski buddies for our boys) that we initially hoped and planned for. Now that the boys are avid skiers and naturally good at skiing, we yearn for more opportunities to have ski vacations at other amazing mountain and Apres destinations. So that being said....

What a good run we had, amazing memories on and off the slopes, the NYE celebrations, good times with friends, the family game and movie nights at our cozy "treehouse" ski bunky as the boys like to refer to it. These memories are priceless, the foundation for the our ski family life has been solidified, and the best is still yet to come!
