our story

It all began on the evening of Nov 29th 2003, at former Chat Noir French Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. Brad approached me [Jana] and we instantly connected; it was love at first sight. The next 4 years that followed were a whirlwind of romance, growing pains, and adventures. We circled the globe, traveling to South America, Europe, and Asia. Then one night, Brad surprised me with a romantic beachside proposal. We made it official on August 23rd 2008 with an intimate wedding at a hip art gallery in Laguna Beach. A year later we finished redesigning our home in the beach village of Corona del Mar.

On May 18th, 2010, we were blessed with a sweet little miracle of our own, our baby boy Taj Leon. He stole our hearts and took our breath away! Then, 19 months later, his incredible little brother, Jax Franz, arrived on Christmas morning (December 25th) 2011. What an amazing gift we received! In an effort to slow down the clock and enjoy our beautiful family, in Spring of 2012, we sold our CA seaside home and moved across the country to our dream lake house in Brad's hometown of Bemus Point, a resort village on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York! Even though we are living a more slow paced life, we are living a life far from ordinary!

From the West Coast to the East Coast, our Grover family adventures continue! So won't you come along and join us on this journey of love, family, and travel we like to call our La Vida Grover!

18 on the 18th

Taj is 18 months old ( 1 1/2 yrs old!) and on the 18th of this month! Next time a special number moment like this occurs is when he turns 18 YEARS old on the 18th!!! WOW! So we had no other choice but to celebrate this special moment in his life! We started the day with a royal breakfast of cheese eggs, danish pancakes, and a very special number 18 waffle:

Then after playing with daddy, we headed to his 18 month well baby check-up. At his 18 month mark, Taji measures 22 lbs (5%) and 31 inches (31%). A lean little well oiled machine like his good old daddy was when he was this age. Brad was skinny and short growing up, yet he always seemed to have all these girlfriends taller than him chasing after him, lol...... then in high school he shot up to 6'2 and all of a sudden towered over his friends and girlfriends. I wonder if the same will happen to Taj...... we shall see as he grows into his own person :)

At his appointment, the receptionist, nurse, and pediatrician were impressed with Taj's talking and vocabulary! Compared to other toddlers his age he is advanced! He is such a chatterbox! He now speaks in 2-4 word sentences, asks for things by saying "more ____" or "one more" or "mama's car". I love his "i wuv you's", and "I miss you's". His and my favorite new words (because they sound so adorable) are papertowel, puppet show, alligator. He knows his shapes, so many animals and animal sounds, 15 body parts, and some of his colors. The other day when our cleaning lady Sonia was over, she overheard Taji asking for his puppy and running to the back of the house to get it. She asked him, which puppy do you want (he has a blue security blanket puppy, and a brown dog he constantly holds on to), she asked "the blue dog or brown dog?" Taj responded "blue". Holy cannoli! When I heard that I was floored and couldn't believe he knew his colors, and the difference between them!! We are so very proud of our "eldest" son!! He loves hanging with the big kids, and hands out hugs left and right when we are at our mommy & me classes and playground. Unlike some toddlers, for a boy, Taj is so gentle, preferring to hug other kids and likes giving kids his toys rather than pushing them aggressively. I hope this stays with him when his brother Jax is born, would love for him to be gentle and "nice" with the baby! I also hope his good manners also stick for the rest of his life. He regularly says "thank you" when he is handed something, and with a reminder, says "pleeeease" when he is begging for something. LOVE! Nothing would make a mama more proud than if her sons grew up to be respectful and compassionate gentleman! Here are 3 recent videos:
Making silly faces (opicky as we say in Czech)

then him concentrating during kicking a ball (can't wait to sign him up for a peewee soccer class of some sort!)

and Taji answering my questions!

After the doc's appointment and a good nap, mama slipped away for a lunch date, and Sam came over to play and do art with him! They made a very special number 18 art project with finger paint, dot markers, crayons, and glue! Daddy bought him an art box with lots of construction paper, crayons, coloring books, and art supplies, and Taj loves to scribble and draw! Babi & Deda, get ready to display his art work on your walls! I'm already saving his so I can one day put them all in a shrink art collage!

What made this day even more special, was a visit from Grandpa Grover! He flew in the other day and is staying with us for a week, then visiting Brad's sister. Just like last year, Grandpa came to visit for the Thanksgiving holiday and helped us celebrate Taj's half birthday. And a number 18 month birthday wouldn't be complete without another symbolic "8" celebration.... the same day we attended Papa Gene's surprise 80th birthday party in the evening! We should all be so lucky to celebrate our 80th birthday and live past 80 healthy and happy! I wish that so much for all of our loved ones, myself and Brad, and our fine little men. Happy Birthday Papa Gene!
