our story

It all began on the evening of Nov 29th 2003, at former Chat Noir French Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. Brad approached me [Jana] and we instantly connected; it was love at first sight. The next 4 years that followed were a whirlwind of romance, growing pains, and adventures. We circled the globe, traveling to South America, Europe, and Asia. Then one night, Brad surprised me with a romantic beachside proposal. We made it official on August 23rd 2008 with an intimate wedding at a hip art gallery in Laguna Beach. A year later we finished redesigning our home in the beach village of Corona del Mar.

On May 18th, 2010, we were blessed with a sweet little miracle of our own, our baby boy Taj Leon. He stole our hearts and took our breath away! Then, 19 months later, his incredible little brother, Jax Franz, arrived on Christmas morning (December 25th) 2011. What an amazing gift we received! In an effort to slow down the clock and enjoy our beautiful family, in Spring of 2012, we sold our CA seaside home and moved across the country to our dream lake house in Brad's hometown of Bemus Point, a resort village on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York! Even though we are living a more slow paced life, we are living a life far from ordinary!

From the West Coast to the East Coast, our Grover family adventures continue! So won't you come along and join us on this journey of love, family, and travel we like to call our La Vida Grover!

Brad's 40 & Fabulous Soiree

Who's this dashing young man?
No, he is not a GQ model.  Or an actor.  Even though he closely resembles Jason Bateman!
This is Brad Grover.  Husband.  Father.  Business Man.  A soon-to-be 40 year old man.  That's right, I said FORTY!  Kind of hard to believe, right?  Age is only a number in his case, because he is still the handsome man I met almost 9 years ago, just a bit more tame!

Since Brad turns 40 on the 29th of this month, but most of his good friends are in town for only the week of 4th of July, we decided to kick-off the festivities early.   A milestone birthday such as this always seems to be celebrated month long anyhow!  His BF Jason (or Uncle Hink) had an idea to throw a casual BBQ at the cottage Friday July 6th.  With only a couple weeks of planning, HInk and I perfected every detail, which by the way were the little surprises Brad didn't know about.

Friday began with Brad rolling out of bed announcing "Its my birthday!"  Me: "Are you ready to turn 40?  Brad: "Nah, that's at the end of the month, I just want everything else that goes along with birthdays"  And that's exactly what he got.  A golf game in the morning with his buddies....

then a little boating sans kids.....
After a catching a few sun rays, throwing back a couple of drinks we were ready to get back to the cottage and kick off Brad's 40th month long celebration..... with a 50+ guest list and lots of kiddos
Hink made awesome Italian sausages with peppers, and we served pulled pork sandwiches.  Everybody brought their favorite side dish or dessert, and we had a big keg and plenty of wine and refreshments to go around.
We surprised Brad with a live musician, Ryan Melquist, who played everything from Jack Johnson, Neil Diamond, to Reggae.

Jax found himself a new girlfriend to play with, Bridget's youngest daughter Eleanor (11 months old):

Taj loved playing the harmonica, and he's so good at it!

Taji also loved getting up close and personal to Ryan Melquist, after all,  my little boy knows how to appreciate a good guitar!

The surprise cake:

When it began to get dark, one of our babysitters came over to help me put the boys to bed.  Then us adults walked down to our dock and had a post-party bonfire.  We sat around roasting marshmallows and enjoying a few more drinks (and a few more for Brad, who stayed up until 4am with his buddies!)  Hink surprised all of us with these Chinese Sky Lanterns...... a super sentimental touch to the party.     Every couple, or pair, got their own lantern.  OK I am so obsessed with these things, they are the coolest!!!   After unfolding your lantern, you light the bottom of it and wait for it to fill up with air.  Then just before you set it free, you make a wish..... and then when you let it go it slowly floats up into the sky (like a balloon) but its glowing in the dark night of course.

our wish lantern...... i hope our wish comes true!
