our story

It all began on the evening of Nov 29th 2003, at former Chat Noir French Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. Brad approached me [Jana] and we instantly connected; it was love at first sight. The next 4 years that followed were a whirlwind of romance, growing pains, and adventures. We circled the globe, traveling to South America, Europe, and Asia. Then one night, Brad surprised me with a romantic beachside proposal. We made it official on August 23rd 2008 with an intimate wedding at a hip art gallery in Laguna Beach. A year later we finished redesigning our home in the beach village of Corona del Mar.

On May 18th, 2010, we were blessed with a sweet little miracle of our own, our baby boy Taj Leon. He stole our hearts and took our breath away! Then, 19 months later, his incredible little brother, Jax Franz, arrived on Christmas morning (December 25th) 2011. What an amazing gift we received! In an effort to slow down the clock and enjoy our beautiful family, in Spring of 2012, we sold our CA seaside home and moved across the country to our dream lake house in Brad's hometown of Bemus Point, a resort village on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York! Even though we are living a more slow paced life, we are living a life far from ordinary!

From the West Coast to the East Coast, our Grover family adventures continue! So won't you come along and join us on this journey of love, family, and travel we like to call our La Vida Grover!

The Tajmanian Devil Strikes Again!

For those that are not familiar this is the Tazmanian Devil, a popular cartoon character that travels and spins at an incredible speed (like a tornado), making a mess everywhere he goes......

And this is the "Taj"manian Devil, he is our human version of the cartoon character (except of course much much cuter and sweeter)... but he too is a tornado that sweeps through our house and is always up to no good! :

So now that you have met our little Tajmanian Devil, wait till you hear what he did today... as shocking as it is. This is how it went down..... we got a late start to nap time (because we took the duffy out for brunch.... another post I will soon share) so I put Taj down for his nap. Half hour goes by, the variety show is still going strong. I poke my head in, and smell a poopy diaper so I change his diaper and remind him it is a nap time. I lay him back down in his crib. A little more variety show, then it is quiet for the next 20 minutes. "Ahhh..." I think, finally he is asleep! So I start pumping in the living room, when all of sudden I hear a soft and sweet "mama?" It didn't sound like it came from the monitor, actually it sounded like it was coming from behind me! I turn to look and almost fall off the couch as I see Taj standing at the top of our stairs in the hallway!! The little stinker crawled out of his crib, opened his door, and came into the hallway! I was so shocked! Now.... I wasn't shocked at the fact that he got out of his crib, because believe it or not this was the second time he did this. What I was shocked about was how quietly he managed to sneak out..... seriously no crying and no thump! The first time he got out of his crib, a big thump was heard and then a very loud cry.

So back to today.... Taji came down the stairs and walked into the living room commenting "mama pump.". Then after I bombarded him with a series of questions he explained to me how it all happened: "all done nap, I climb out crib, I climb and I fell." When I asked if he got hurt, he pointed to his knee. Then he said "I open door". Oh my goodness! Did that just happen for real? He must have us all fooled how strong he is, capable of climbing and falling without a single peep..... I think it was calculated and thoroughly planned out!! So i inspect the crime scene...... wow, what a mess! If one didn't know, one would think a tornado hit his room! Clothes, diapers, socks, and books everywhere! All the drawers opened on his dresser, changing pad cover in disarray, blankets and stuffed animals out of the crib and on the floor.... and the most interesting part of it all, light on and heat on! (Taji pushed the light switch on and turned the dial on the heater on the wall above the changing pad table.) I think Taj got out of his crib by hoisting himself up on the changing table from the crib, then using the open drawers he must have crawled down to the floor. So many thoughts and fears ran through my head at that moment. What if the dresser fell on him? What if the bookshelf above the changing table fell on him? What if he fell out of the crib on his head or got his leg stuck in the bars? Ayayay! So scary! What to do?

When my sister came over later today, she recommended we graduate Taj to the toddler bed (our crib changes into a toddler bed with railing), and switch out the door knob and buy the child proof doorknob cover so Taji is not able to open the door from the inside. We would also need to secure the dresser and bookshelves to the wall so they couldn't be pulled down. I agree with her that it may be time to move Taji out of the crib, but am I mentally ready to? Our little toddler is growing into a big boy, and now he will be in a big boy bed..... when did this all happen?
