Did you know that Taj has entered into his twenties? (of months that is!) But more than anything, he is closer to that big birthday #2..... time flies now more than ever! Last month he turned 20 months.... no longer the "teens", so even though I'm a few weeks overdue, here is Taj's update! From what I remember at his 20 month check-up (when he had to get his next series of shots) he was back up to the 60 something percentile for height and weighed 23 lbs.
At 20 months, Taj's vocabulary is expanding like a wild fire. We seriously cannot keep up with him and have to spell things around him when we are discussing them and don't want him to eavesdrop (like "baba", "park", "puppy"). He says phrases like "have a good day!", "bless you Baby Jax!", or my favorite: "Mama's pumping boobies" (I don't think there's many toddlers that have "pumping" and "boobies" in their vocabulary ha! His memorization skills are impressive. He completes sentences in books and it only takes him a day to memorize them. This is what gets him excited about reading, he likes to read to us! Because of this skill, he has learned his shapes, colors, numbers, ABC's, and prepositions at an incredible speed. Taj sings the ABC song, and knows 85% of the letters! He can identify and label letters, all the colors (even purple, pink, brown, black, and white!), and shapes (including diamond and oval!) He counts to 10, and loves to count further by saying "tateen" and "fateen"(for numbers 13 and 14). Taj also knows his prepositions. For instance, when I say "up", he says "down". Or "near" he says "far"! Do you think he's too young to go to preschool? How about kindergarten? Kidding! We have started thinking about what kind of school we want Taj going into since he will be ahead of the curve of what most toddlers know..... One thing I'm sure of is that Taji LOVES to learn, and LOVES to talk.
Some of his favorite things are racing cars, kicking around balls (yes, still obsessed with balls!), watching his First Impressions Colors, Number, and Letters DVDs (best videos ever!), playing guitar, dancing, jumping, singing, reading (that's a given), and his favorite book is the big "Cars, Trucks, and Things that Go" book and loves to find "goldbug" on each page. Its like this generation's "Where's Waldo?"
As for the Tajmanian Devil crib-eloping scenarios.... those have ceased thanks to daddy lowering the crib mattress as low as it would go (and we thought we had it on the lowest setting!), but many friends recommended a crib tent, so that is definitely a possibility. I decided to hold off on the toddler bed sleep training because potty training is a priority right now and we have to focus on it..... (especially since Taj is begging to be potty trained, he constantly reminds us when we change his diaper, he says "potty training?")
In other Taj news, he just finished up soccer with daddy on Thursdays, and is now taking indoor swim lessons with mommy on Tuesdays. We are also going to sign him up for a Multi-Sport (soccer, baseball, and basketball) class. Here he is on his last day of soccer:
