I live a life full of adventure and stories, therefore, I blog. I am a blogger. What the heck is that? According to the Wikipedia, it is "one who writes on a World Wide Web forum, also referred to as a 'blog'." I don't even know how I fell into it. Oh yeah, now I remember..... We got pregnant with Taj, and wanted to document the journey. Its incredible how children inspire new hobbies. La Vida Grover was born. What kind of a life does one have if you can't document it in pictures and stories? After all, once we die, isn't that all that is left of us? The memories, the photos, and..... the blog. Mine will be a published blog, dispersed in annual photo books for my children to enjoy year after year, even after I'm gone. Then, hopefully, they will be passed on to the grandchildren and so forth.... that's my hope.
For as long as I can remember, and as soon as I was able to write, I had a diary. I still have those diaries..... the one from elementary school, high school, the college years, and post-college newlywed years.... and now, I have the La Vida Grover blog. Sure, we all thought it was going to be another one of my gung-ho hobbies (Pole Pilates, hair/ eyelash extensions, photography, photo book-designing..... just to name a few!), but nope, this was one here to stay! I recommend journal writing to everyone, it is the most common piece of advice I gave to my students when I worked as a counselor. Journaling your thoughts, feelings, aspirations, and frustrations allows you to have an outlet but it also serves as a source of personal growth. You look back on how much you have overcome, how much you have changed, and that creates empowerment. Online journaling? Even better, because you can make an impact on an audience, and of course it helps to shorten the distance between loved ones when you share your life online.
I was surprised to find how many people actually read and follow my blog. Those that have come forth, have showered me with the sweetest praise. The highest compliments have been that my stories and words inspire, motivate, hit home, and bring tears. Some have even taken my advice. Thank you. All I ever try to be is honest.
I have also been asked how I find the time to blog. Hmmmm, I sometimes ask myself the same question. And so I respond, with a smirk on my face, "its my part-time job". Think of how much time it takes to upload photos, organize them, comment and write descriptions..... and thats the easy part. The other part to blogging, is story-telling. I like to tell stories, and I like to think out-loud. I like to share what's bouncing around in that crazy head of mine. As long as there is a life to be lived (and I mean really 'lived'), there will always be stories to be told and opinions to be shared. If we are lucky, we get to document it all and share it with the world. I wonder what my boys will think of me after reading our blog books, or what their children will think.....but I hope they think I'm a pretty cool (and funny) chick who devoted her time to telling the story of their life growing up. Life is busy, but never that busy that you can't take a couple hours out of a week to write a post and document an adventure or thought that will later bring about a smile or a chuckle. As a side note, we LOVE looking at Taj's first year blog-turned-into-book and often refer to it as Jax reaches his monthly milestones. What we love the most are the photos, and the crazy photo shoots we did with him...... it was worth every second, hour, and evening I spent editing and blogging. We only get a brief moment to enjoy our babies as babies and as they grow into their own, why not make the most of it and get as creative as we can? Same goes for the time we get as a family. We only get so many years of that pure family time, family adventures, family vacations..... again, we have to make the most of it, cherish it, and preserve it. When Brad and I are old and wrinkly people, we can't wait to look through our "family life" books, read the stories, laugh out loud, and cry over how beautiful our life has been.
There are days I am tired and less motivated to blog, but I push forward and try to keep up..... even if I'm say, 3 weeks behind! A fellow blogger described blogging the best:
"On top of having stories to tell, becoming a blogger has given me more to write about as well. It has made me tune into so much more of what is going on around me. It has made me dissect things that I never before thought about. It has helped me find humor in many of life’s moments that before I wouldn’t have paid much attention to. It has helped me realize just how much of my life is a story worth telling."
I couldn't have said it better.
our story
It all began on the evening of Nov 29th 2003, at former Chat Noir French Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. Brad approached me [Jana] and we instantly connected; it was love at first sight. The next 4 years that followed were a whirlwind of romance, growing pains, and adventures. We circled the globe, traveling to South America, Europe, and Asia. Then one night, Brad surprised me with a romantic beachside proposal. We made it official on August 23rd 2008 with an intimate wedding at a hip art gallery in Laguna Beach. A year later we finished redesigning our home in the beach village of Corona del Mar.
On May 18th, 2010, we were blessed with a sweet little miracle of our own, our baby boy Taj Leon. He stole our hearts and took our breath away! Then, 19 months later, his incredible little brother, Jax Franz, arrived on Christmas morning (December 25th) 2011. What an amazing gift we received! In an effort to slow down the clock and enjoy our beautiful family, in Spring of 2012, we sold our CA seaside home and moved across the country to our dream lake house in Brad's hometown of Bemus Point, a resort village on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York! Even though we are living a more slow paced life, we are living a life far from ordinary!
From the West Coast to the East Coast, our Grover family adventures continue! So won't you come along and join us on this journey of love, family, and travel we like to call our La Vida Grover!
