our story

It all began on the evening of Nov 29th 2003, at former Chat Noir French Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA. Brad approached me [Jana] and we instantly connected; it was love at first sight. The next 4 years that followed were a whirlwind of romance, growing pains, and adventures. We circled the globe, traveling to South America, Europe, and Asia. Then one night, Brad surprised me with a romantic beachside proposal. We made it official on August 23rd 2008 with an intimate wedding at a hip art gallery in Laguna Beach. A year later we finished redesigning our home in the beach village of Corona del Mar.

On May 18th, 2010, we were blessed with a sweet little miracle of our own, our baby boy Taj Leon. He stole our hearts and took our breath away! Then, 19 months later, his incredible little brother, Jax Franz, arrived on Christmas morning (December 25th) 2011. What an amazing gift we received! In an effort to slow down the clock and enjoy our beautiful family, in Spring of 2012, we sold our CA seaside home and moved across the country to our dream lake house in Brad's hometown of Bemus Point, a resort village on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York! Even though we are living a more slow paced life, we are living a life far from ordinary!

From the West Coast to the East Coast, our Grover family adventures continue! So won't you come along and join us on this journey of love, family, and travel we like to call our La Vida Grover!

The Arrival of Spring- April 2015….. and Not

April 13th….. check out that week's forecast!
We were actually warmer than Southern CA that day!!!

Ahhh, with the arrival of April (second week that is) came lots of sunshine and warmer temperatures.  Spring was definitely poking its head out and finally gave us a good show.  We of course took advantage of every warm and sunny day by playing on our playground, going on bike rides, and going on little hikes nearby.

We were even picnicking in our yard….. yummy green smoothies and healthy lunches.

I have a funny story to tell from our forest walk experience!  So one of the nice sunny days, the boys and I hopped on our bikes and rode over to Long Point State Park.  We parked our bikes and walked through the forest to a playground where the boys played for a bit.  Then we walked the same route back through the forest and just before we reached our bikes, something caught my eye up ahead in between trees.  It blended with the trees and it appeared to be a very large animal!  No other people were around. It definitely wasn't a dog. A wolf? A bear? Hoping maybe a large deer.  But it didn't move like a deer.  My heart began racing, I have never felt so vulnerable! Luckily, we were near our bikes so without blinking I frantically rushed the boys, jumped on our bikes, and sped off, all while making a lot of noise!  All while, Taji became very startled and curious, and kept asking me what I saw.   Later, I posted my experience on Facebook and several friends replied that it could have been deer, but also there have been bobcat sightings!  Jeepers!  I am glad we got out of there in time….. I have just always been oblivious to thinking some large animal could attack us, because Long Point is surrounded by homes and its often busy with hikers, runners, bikers, etc.  That doesn't mean a bear or bobcat wouldn't find its way in there. There are many deer found at the park…. so why would I not think they would have predators themselves?  I know better now.  I decided, I will not walk through the woods like that alone with the boys.  You just never know.

We had several weeks of amazing Spring weather, the buds on trees began popping out and growing leaves, the first flowers were blooming, the grass and nature turned green, and then…… guess what happened on April 23rd?

SNOW!

It was so bizarre, but not at all out of character for this time of year here in WNY.  Good thing it lasted only 2 days, but it was so strange the temperature dropped 40+ degrees in just 12 hours and the snow actually stuck to the ground.  And to think, right at that time we were invited to go to a destination wedding in Costa Rica that we declined.  We could have missed the snow again altogether.  Thankfully, the snow was short lived and the next week after we were flowing in 70 degree temperatures once again!
